The main and most logical reason behind depreciating the non current assets is that non current assets are used for a period which is more than one accounting period. So in order to arrive at current position of the entity depreciates its non current assets.

Apart from that another reason to depreciate is due to wear and tear of Noncurrent Assets and obsolescence with the passage of time. Non current assets have limited life . After that entiy needs to replace its assets from another asset.

Depreciation is calculated on useful life of noncurrent assets, so it reflects true & fair view of the Financial statement at the end of period.
