Case 1:
The kanban system
Suppose demand at the receiving work center B is 4 parts per minute
and a standard container holds 50 parts.
Also assume that it takes 200 minutes of lead time for a container
to make a complete circuit from work center A to work center B and
back to A again, including all setup, run, move, and wait
time.
Question: Find n the number of containers needed in this
case.
Number of containers n = D*T / C
D = Demand = 4 parts per minute
T = Time for container to complete an entire circuit = 200 minutes
C = Container size = 50 parts
So,
n= 4 * 200 / 50
n = 16 containers.
Please please please leave a like. It'd encourage me to give better answers in future. Thank you. Have a nice day.

JIT /Lean - Kanban: Daily demand for a product is 200 units. The production lead time (wait time + production time) for a container is 2 days. A 1-day safety stock is kept. How many kanban containers will be needed if each container holds 50 units? [Show calculations.]
Suppose a Lean work center is being operated with a container size of 25 units and a demand rate of 100 units per hour. Also assume it takes 180 minutes lead time to fulfill a downstream container request. Assuming a safety stock factor of 5 percent, how many containers should be required? Select one: O a. none of these O b. 756.0 containers O c. 12.6 containers O d. 1,080.0 containers O e. 18.0 containers
Lady Bug Machineries uses a lean production assembly line to make its generators. In one assembly area, the demand is 200 parts per 8-hour day. It uses a container that holds 10 parts. It typically takes about 5 hours to round-trip a container from one work center to the next and back again. They also desire to hold a 20% safety stock of this part in the system. Based on the required safety stock of zero and the number of...
Boehm Compressors uses a lean production assembly line to make its compressors. In one assembly area, the demand is 100 parts per eight-hour day. It uses a container that holds eight parts. It typically takes about six hours to round-trip a container from one work center to the next and back again. It also desires to hold 15% safety stock of this part in the system. If it reduced the number of containers by one, how would this impact the...
A manufacturing assembly line has a demand for specific part of 1,200 parts per eight-hour day. It wants to design a lean system using containers. It takes about four hours to round-trip a container from one work center to the next and back again. It also wants to hold 10% safety stock of this part in its system. a) Design a container system. State each container's size and how many are needed. b) Calculate the maximum system inventory for this...
In a winch assembly plant at Curt Manufacturing, the winch assembly work cell for the winch mount handle has a demand of 200 units an hour. Two feeder cells supply the two winch component parts CRT31005 and CRT 31006 to the assembly cell (one CRT31005 and one CRT31006 for each winch mount handle). Standard containers will hold 20 CRT31005’s or 10 CRT31006’s. It takes 10 minutes to fill up a container with CRT31005’s and 20 minutes to full up a...
The Sylva Machine Shop was implementing lean throughout their shop floor and needed to determine the number of containers at several of their work centers. In one such work center, the demand was 200 parts per hour, and the containers they used for this part held 50 parts. It normally takes 6 hours for a full container to make a circuit through the work cell and back to its input side, and they desired to carry 12% safety stock in...

Gary’s Gears is a production facility that produces metal gears. The first step is stamping, which happens at a press. There are two identical presses that operate simultaneously (gears can be stamped on either press). A press stamps one part at a time. It takes 1 minute to stamp a part, including loading and unloading. Before beginning a new batch of parts, there is a 20-minute setup involving die change. The batch size is 100 parts. In other words, after...
