Discuss which method of routing you would prefer, static routes or dynamic routes. Be sure to justify your choice. Consider extremely large networks that have thousands of routes. How does your preference change based on the scale of the network? At what point does static routing for all connected routes become unmanageable?

Answer #1

Using static and dynamic routing:

  • Routing is one of the most crucial processes that are to be worked out in the IP networks which are being responsible for the prefix propagation and also keeping the whole network topology within a particular order.
  • As there are billions of IP addresses and are many divided different subnets in which routing of these are being used for preventing the whole Internet from working properly. So, routing is one of the most important sets of rules that will allow for localizing the IP network and the addresses.
  • Static routing is manual routing in which we give the router full information of the destination which is most specific and hence, it is called as the manual or static routing of the information.
  • In order to make the administrative task quick and also within the static routing solution there are things in which informing, the router becomes the most important task. There are certain things to be informed to the router those are as follows:
    • Every change that happens in the topology
    • Every new prefix
    • Every prefix removal
  • Hence, it becomes tough to use this configuration when there are many users in the network with multiple devices than routing them to different points becomes very tough and even challenging at times.
  • Using, dynamic routing becomes easy in such cases as it is the automatic process which runs between all the routers. The process is also called as the routing protocol and is being designed for such things such as:
    • Exchanging of IP prefixes between the routers
    • Finding the optimal path to the destinations
    • Forming the anti-loop topology
    • It also helps in automating the changes
    • There are also chances of speeding up the processes of administrative tasks.

Hence, using dynamic routing in such cases becomes more advantageous where there are multiple routers and we have to add minimum subnets for the network.

In this assignment you will be implementing a weather forecaster. It involves writing 3 different classes plus a driver program. It is recommended that you write one class at a time and then write a driver (tester) program to ensure that it works before putting everything together. Alternately, you can use the Interactions tab of JGRASP to test some of the early classes. This is discussed in the next few pages. The Season Class The first, shortest, and easiest class...
