After analyzing the differences between compatibilism and libertarianism, explain in 250-350 words what you take to be the two most significant differences. Specifically, pick two of the following five major differences discussed in the reading (e.g., the ability condition, the control condition, the rationality condition, causation, and the person as agent).
The main difference between compatibilism and libertarianism in how they perceive 'free will'. According to compatibilism free will is compatible with determinism, which is essentially a belief that human action is determined by causes regarded as external to the will. In contrast to compatibilism, libertarianism argues that free will is logically incompatible with a deterministic universe and that agents have free will, and that therefore determinism is false. They essentially deny that the universe is deterministic.
Libertarianism believes that human action even if freely chosen, that is the person as agent is acting according to free will is not truly free. They believe that actions should be a cause of free will rather than being determined by past or factors outside the agent. This is only possible if the person agent could have done otherwise. They hold the view that causation is pre-determined - that is preceded by an event before or caused by the will of the person. Compatibilism believes that person actions are pre-determined, but some human actions free. They advocate that the action is free when it's self -determined.Therefore, compatibilists see the person having moral responsibility for his or her actions.
