The impacts of the petroleum sector on the marine and coastal biological resource.
Ans. Petroleum is the raw material for many other products such as fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, plastics etc. Petroleum industry makes many product of Petroleum for marketing by using process like extraction, exploration, refining and transportation.
There are some impacts of petroleum industry on Marine and coastal resources:-
1. Oil spills- During transportation sometime oil spills Into the Marine and coastal region, cause major environmental damage including- oil -coated shoreline responsible for death of many aquatic flora and fauna.
2 . Mining :- While mining petroleum from the seabed, petroleum Industries use large ships for this process. This ships produce noise and light that disturb marine wildlife.
3. Waste oil from petroleum or petroleum product containing toxic substance such as Benzene. It reaches rivers and seas with run off cause poisoning.
4. Acid rain :- when petroleum and their products are burned they contribute to the acid rain. Acid rain kill marine wildlife, coral reefs, fish etc.
The impacts of the petroleum sector on the marine and coastal biological resource.
An F' plasmid from an exotic marine bacterium that can degrade petroleum when mated with an F-E. coli that cannot degrade petroleum results in an E. coli F' that can degrade petroleum. After sequencing the F' plasmid and comparing it to the F sequence, you see that it has about 6000 base pairs of additional DNA. You suspect that there is a gene in that sequence that encodes a protein that degrades petroleum. Describe how you would use reverse genetics...
1. The Regulation of Banking Sector in Ghana. 2. The Role of Audit in Banks sustainability 3.The impacts of corporate Governance on the Ghanaian Banking Sector
Explain in detail how the household sector imteracts with the resource/factor market.
in 1-2 pages In your own words, express the impacts that both biological evolution and cultural evolution have on the modern human species. In other words, how has our biology and our way of life influenced us to become the people we are today? Which do you believe has a stronger effect on human evolution – biology or culture? Why? Or does biology and culture have an equal impact on human evolution? Explain.
The Dutch Disease refers to a situation in which I: manufacturing firms contract when resource-sector firms expand. II: the international value of the domestic currency is rising. Both I and II are true. II is true; I is not. Neither I nor II is true. I is true; II is not.
While many researchers have studied marine ecosystems from a single limiting nutrient perspective, evidence suggests resource colimitation is more common. This means that Choose one: A. the limiting nutrient is too energetically expensive to acquire B. competition for the limiting nutrient can make it less limiting. C. symbioses are required to maximize uptake of the limiting nutrient. D. there is more than one limiting nutrient.
4. Commodities and development A. Problems of commodity dependence including resource curse and Dutch disease; B. Importance of diversification of economy, including modernization of commodity sector, value addition and moving up the ladders of commodity supply chain, encouraging investment including FDI, and development of new sectors of the economy. C. The sustainability and climate change aspects of the commodity economy, including importance of limiting CO2 emissions, and other adverse environmental impacts of production, trade, distribution and use of commodities. Please...
Understanding biological sensitivities to climate change from species traits is useful for prioritising adaptation strategies because: They are broad spectrum indicators that incorporate interactions with each other and the ecosystem, providing a holistic overview of the direction of impacts They provide a rapid assessment tool to help identify areas with a high concentration of sensitive species including those of commercial and ecological significance. They are robust tools for use against anti-climate change theorists They help us to understand that climate...
From Hung et al., (2017) “Purification, characterization and biological effect of lectin from the marine sponge Stylissa flexibilis (Lévi, 1961)” Specimens were cut into small pieces, ground with a mixer machine and extracted (1:2, w/v) with 50 mM Tris–HCl, 150 mM NaCl buffer (pH 7.5) for 6 h at 4 °C. After filtration through a cheese cloth, the filtrate was centrifuged at 3500 × g for 30 min at 4 °C. To the supernatant, cold absolute ethanol (− 20 °C) was...
Case 5-1 Accounting for BP P:C's Deep water Horizon Oil Spill Case 5-1 Accounting for BP PLC’s Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill On April 20, 2010, an explosion at BP PLC’s Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico caused the largest oil spill and one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history. Because the incident occurred at the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, this incident is often referred to as the Deepwater Horizon spill. Approximately 4.9 million barrels of oil were...
