Discuss the role of women in the late 19th century. In what ways were the roles, attitudes, and expectations for women changing -- using several specific examples? Why were those changes taking place? How was society responding to those changes? In what ways did the roles of women remain the same?

Women have come a long way from where they were once in terms of rights for property, education, employment, political participation etc. They were considered as child bearing machines and household worker. Today, they have got most of their rights and function on par with men both at home and in the society. Since both men and women work outside, they have also started sharing the responsibilities at home too in terms of cooking, cleaning and taking care of children. Although women have come a long way, there is still some kind of discrimination at the workplace in terms of difference in pay, promotion and treatment. Women have also fought for their voting rights, abortion rights, expression of sexuality rights etc. and this was strengthened by the change in men who were influenced by education and exposure. Nevertheless, the attitude towards women have changed and they get more exposure and respect which also helps them express themselves without any difficulties in terms of sexuality. So both the roles and attitudes of the society about women have changed to a great extent.
