The main impurities formed during preparation of NH4BF4 from Boric acid, NH4F and H2SO4 are:-

1) Acidic impurities:- The product NH4BF4 formed from the reaction may include acid and hence it is removed by washing with acetone.

2) salts :- A few salts may be formed and thus NH4BF4 is purified by dissolving it in hot water containing concentrated ammonia, heating to precipitate any silica, then filtering and evaporating.
