In a species of lily, purple flowers are dominant to yellow flowers. Brown spots on the petals are dominant to orange spots. A plant breeder has a true breeding purple lily with brown spots. She also has a true breeding yellow lily with orange spots. Using your knowledge of genetics and dihybrid crosses, describe a method she could use to develop a variety of lily, beginning with these flowers, that has yellow petals with brown spots. The described method should give her plants which will always produce this type of flower.
In a dihybrid cross, we can multiply two genes of organisms with different traits. And we can analyze the offspring factors in each progeny. In this experiment, we took two traits of petal color and spot colors. Now in this experiment, it is already showed that pink colored petals are dominant and yellow color petals are recessive, simultaneously brown spots are dominant traits and orange spots are recessive.
So, Here PP = Purple flower and pp = Yellow flower
BB = Brown spot and bb = Orange spot
So after the dihybrid cross, we found some result like:
Purple flower and Brown spot (PPBB, PpBB, PPBb, PpBb) = 9 offsprings
Purple flower and orange spot (PPbb, Ppbb) = 3 offsprings
Yellow flower and Brown spot (ppBB, ppBb) = 3 offsprings
Yellow flower and orange spot (ppbb) = 1 offspring
So, in the picture, we can see the phenotypic ratio, which is 9:3:3:1

While exploring the Antarctic, you discover a species of small flowers that are yellow, purple, or white according to the following pathway with A and B Genes. A promotes the transition from purple to yellow and B inhibits the transition from yellow to white. You cross true breeding yellow flowers with true breeding purple flowers. All of the F1 offspring are yellow. You cross the F1 yellow flowers to each other and see the following offspring: 94 -yellow 41-purple 29-white...
2. (4pts) In a strain of Petunia that normally have purple flowers, recessive and dominant mutations at the red color locus (R locus : R+ = wildtype allele, purple) lead to different flower colors. Plants that carry a particular dominant allele Ra have pink petals. Of the individuals that carry one allele of the dominant allele Rb roughly 20% have normally colored purple petals, the remaining 80% show a range of lighter red colors. Individuals that are homozygous for Rb...

1. You want to determine whether three prairie dog genes are linked, and if so what is the order of the genes and how many map units are they away from each other. Capital letters are dominant: L = long necked, I = short-necked, G = gray fur, g = brown fur, R = red eyes, r = pink eyes. True-breeding parentals of opposite phenotypes were bred to produce the F1 hybrids, then the F1 hybrids were test crossed to...

In the pea plants that Mendel studiod, purple/violet lowers are dominant to white flowers and yellow poas are dominant to green peas. The alleles designated for each phenotype are W for purple/hiolet flowers, w for white flowers, G lor yellow peas, and g for green peas. 1) You are provided two plants with the genotypes GgWw and g9ww. Indicate their corresponding phenotype. (1 point). 2) Now you must cross these plants together to yield an F1 generation. Write out the...

1. In corn, purple kernels are dominant to yellow kernels, and starchy kernels are dominant to sweet kernels. If the genotypic verent crosed with a yellow, sweet parent? What would be the phenotypic ratio of the Fa complete dominance is the pattern of inheritance, what would be and phenotypic ratios for the offspring of a true breeding purple, starchy generation? 2. In guinea pigs, a cross between black furred and brown furred parents gives offspring with 100% black...
A plant produces purple and white flowers. Purple is dominant to white. If we have a homozygous dominant purple flower and a homozygous recessive flower, which of the following choices are correct? O purple; PP O white; Pp O purple; pp O white; PP A heterozygous individual with brown eyes has a child with a homozygous dominant individual with brown eyes. What are the chances they have a blue-eyed baby? (You can create a Punnet square on a scratch paper...
Genetics Coursework Part A: A geneticist discovers a single primrose with yellow flowers. All other primroses have orange flowers. The geneticist crosses the yellow primrose with one of the orange primroseand obtains 66 yellow and 61 orange progeny. The geneticist crosses two of the yellow primroses from the progeny of the first cross, and obtains 89 yellow and 32 orange primroses. Explain these results by sketching the two crosses, giving the combinations of heritable factors and associated traits for parents...
2. Let's say that you are a breeder interested in developing a new variety of pea with purple flowers and you have decided to discard any plant that has white flowers. You cross two true-breeding parents together (one purple and one white) and you are debating whether to grow out the F population and visually select for purple flowers or to use a CAPS marker and select based on genotype. List 2 circumstances in which it would be better for...
