Two gears inside a robot are meshed, which guarantees that the tangential speeds of both gears' teeth are equal. If gear A has twice the radius of gear B ( r A = 2 r B), how are the angular speeds of the gears related?

ωA = 0.5

ωB ωA = 2 ωB

ωA = ωB

Answer #1

Since tangential speeds are equal ( say speed ''v'')

therefore angular velocity of A, is ωA = v / RA

and ,

angular velocity of B, is ωB = v / RB

Also, RA = 2 RB

therefore,

ωA = 0.5 x ωB   Answer
