In K-NN, we ignored the direction component of the vectorized representation of data items and only considered the distance. Does it make sense to also consider the direction of the nearest neighbor in addition to or instead of the distance from it? Why or why not?

Answer #1

We an not ignore the direction in the data item as direction is very important concept.

As we check the distance direction specifies where the component has moved and leaving this will not give the right

position of the component from the time interval.

As the direction should be there to note down the real position and distance of the component in K-NN

R project for building a k-NN model. In this question you are going to work with perhaps the best known dataset in the machine learning community. It is about the classification of the iris flower in different species. The original dataset contains 4 attributes and 3 classes, but, to simplify the problem, we are going to work with a subset of the data. The dataset we are going to work with is in iris.csv, and contains only two (continuous) features:...

    2. Sometimes you want to sort lots of data, but you only need the smallest (or largest) K items instead of all items. For example, maybe you want to give awards to the ten students with the best GPAs. If you have thousands of students, you could waste time sorting all of them just to find the top ten. Perhaps we can adapt an existing sorting algorithm so that it works faster if we just want to find and sort...

Let us just think of simple 1-dimensional problem, dropping a ball of mass m from a height H but 2 with air resistance. We can model the air resistance as a force proportional to the velocity, fair = bv. The coefficient bis a constant. Problem 1 (Logistic Regression and KNN). In this problem, we predict Direction using the data Weekly.csv. a. i. Split the data into one training set and one testing set. The training set contains observations from 1990 to 2008 (Hint: we can use a Boolean vector train=(Year < 2009)). The testing set contains observations in 2009 and 2010 (Hint: since train is a Boolean vector here, should use ! symbol to reverse the elements of a Boolean vector to obtain the...

Return to the original model. We now introduce a Poisson intensity parameter X for every time point and denote the parameter () that gives the canonical exponential family representation as above by θ, . We choose to employ a linear model connecting the time points t with the canonical parameter of the Poisson distribution above, i.e., n other words, we choose a generalized linear model with Poisson distribution and its canonical link function. That also means that conditioned on t,...

Study 1 Study 1 was a cross-sectional study for which the major purpose was to develop and validate a self-report measure of grit in a large sample of adults aged 25 years or older. The predictive validity of grit was assessed by its association with higher levels of lifetime schooling among individuals of identical age sity (e.g., "I have overcome...
