(Evolution) Would you expect there to be greater
parent-offspring conflict between a 3 year old
bird and its new chick, or a 6 year-old bird and its new chick?
Explain your
answer.
The term, 'Parent-Offspring conflict' is coined by Robert Trivers, which describes the evolutionary conflict arising from differences in optimal parental investment of gene pool in an offspring from the standpoint of the parent and the offspring. Parental investment is any investment by the parent in an individual offspring that decreases the parent's ability to inivest in other offspring, while the selected offspring's chance of surviving increases.
Parent-offspring conflict or POC occurs in sexually reproducing species. POC is based on a genetic conflict. Parents are equally related to each of their offspring . So they are expected to equalize their investment among all of their offspring, whereas halfspring are only half or less related to their siblings.
Thus, there would not be greater difference between the POC of a 3-year old bird and its chick and a 6-year old bird and its chick.

7. If the Fz generation were produced, what proportion of the offspring would you expect to produce 14 pound fruits? a. 1/16 b. 128/256 c. 56/256 d. 47/128 e. 1/256 8. When two 12 pound F2 trees were crossed they produced offspring which all produced 12 pound fruit. However, when these offspring were crossed randomly, the fruit produced weighted from 4 to 20 pounds. What can you say about the possible genotypes of the original F2 trees? 65 AJ. Jones...

Evolution ; You observe two species of snakes that each has bright yellow markings on its sides. In one species only the females have the bright coloration. Bright coloration makes snakes more visible to predators. A) Given only this information in which species would you predict that males and females contribute more equally to the costs of reproduction and why? B) For the species that experiences less equal investment in reproduction draw a graph that relates the number of matings...
