Assume a positron (m = 9.11e-31kg) in an unknown magnetic field has a cyclotron frequency of 1.4E11 Hz. If we measure the cyclotron frequency of an unknown particle with the same charge as a positron to be 7.63E7 Hz, what is its approximate mass?

Answer #1

Note that charge and magnetic field is same for both the cases. So, it will be cancelled out when you divide both the equations of frequency.

Alright Dude, If that worked for you... dont forget to give THUMBS UP.(that will work for me!)

    (1) Cyclotron radiation Free electrons and protons will gyrate, or circle, around magnetic field lines at a frequency fgy equal to JEyrO2T m where B is the magnetic field. q is the charge of the particle, and m is the mass of the particle. Jgyro is call the gyro frequency, and is also called the cyclotron frequency. As we discussed in class, charges which change their velocity will create electromagnetic waves If they change their velocity in a repeating pattern...

I Review A Hall-effect probe to measure magnetic field strengths needs to be calibrated in a known magnetic field. Although it is not easy to do, magnetic fields can be precisely measured by measuring the cyclotron frequency of protons. A testing laboratory adjusts a magnetic field until the proton's cyclotron frequency is 9.80 MHz . At this field strength, the Hall voltage on the probe is 0.547 mV when the current through the probe is 0.141 mA . Later, when...

    2. A cyclotron is a device used to accelerate charged particles to high speeds. It consists of two hollow containers -called dees because of their shape facing each other and separated by a small gap. They are immersed in a uniform magnetic field, B, and are attached to a source of alternating voltage. A charged particle is projected from the center of the cyclotron into Dee #1, and the magnetic force causes it to turn in a cirele. When it...
