There are 7 m&m's left in the bag: 4 orange, 2 green, and 1 red. "O" is the event that an orange M&M is drawn, and "R" is the event that a red one is drawn, and "G" is the event that a green one is drawn. What is the probability of drawing 2 oranges with replacement on 2 successive draws and with no replacement on 2 successive draws?

Answer #1

With replacement, P(O) = 4/7

Probability of drawing 2 oranges with replacement on 2 successive draws

= P(O) * P(O)

= (4/7) * (4/7 )

= 0.3265

Without replacement, probability of drawing oranges on 1st draw P(O1) = 4/7

Without replacement, probability of drawing oranges on 2nd draw P(O2) = 3/6

Probability of drawing 2 oranges with no replacement on 2 successive draws

= P(O1) * P(O2)

= (4/7) * (3/6 )

= 0.2857
