x = number of defect in a sample

x̄ = mean of number of defect in a sample

x̄ = total defects / no. of samples

= 36/10

x̄ = 3.6 defects per sample

p = proportion of the parts that have defect in the sample

p̂ = proportion of parts that have defect overall (including all samples)

p̂ = total defects / (no. of samples * no. of parts in each sample)

= 36 / (10*100)

p̂ = 0.036
