Question: In a population of beetles, the frequency of the dominant allele A at a locus...

Question: In a population of beetles, the frequency of the dominant allele A at a locus is 0.8. If the population has 400 individuals, what is the expected number of A alleles in the gene pool?

Can some please explain to me in detail how deal with the 400 individuals, I always get confused when a the number of individuals is given in population. Please help me.

You calaculate A frequency first. As given in image it is 0.8

Now multiply this allelic frequency with ( 2× number of total individuals)

= 0.8 × ( 2 × 400)

= 0.8 × 800

= 640 alleles of A in population out of total 800 alleles

( We multiply with 2 multiply by total number of individual for calculating number of alleles.)
