How are nurses portrayed in the media and how can they change that image about the nursing profession?
Public image creates a frame-work by which others approach nursing as a profession, as well as each nurse individually. We judge them by this image which the media spreads having some pre conceived notions about them all this while. Sometimes there are adds which lead to demeaning of the kind of work that they do and there are others which seem to care less about the efforts which they put in day in and out to reach the top. The idea is to showcase how much they do for the patients. A doctor's work usually ends when they diagnose the patient and prescribe him the medicines but it is in the hands of a nurse to take him a step ahead in life and ensure he gets what he wants all the way. We need to ensure things work fine for all of us no matter how hard the road gets.We need to respect and appreciate every being in every profession no matter how hard and tiring it is to say.One of the more poignant ads is a male nurse singing with a pediatric patient while he gives chemotherapy. These types of commercials, reaching millions of people, may go a long way in having a positive impact on the image of nursing.
