  1. Many factors must be considered when attempting to predict the energetic needs of organisms - a primary goal of ecology. Below are two factors that must be considered. Compare and contrast how and why each effects the basal/standard energetic needs of endothermic regulators (homeotherms) and ectothermic conformers (poikilotherms)– feel free to draw and paste in a graph(s) but be sure to reference them and explain what they mean in text (40 points).
  1. Body size
  1. Environmental temperature
  2. Explain how and why the effect of body size on energetic demands may affect the ability of individuals of different sizes (small and large) to cope with a shifting thermal environment in the face of climate change.

Answer:                    This question i have to write pointswise, because it's easy to understand you...

Regulators:

  • Regulators regulate their bodies to remains at a relatively constant temperature.
  • While in the past such regulators were called warm blooded . There body temperature despite their surroundings.
  • It demand significant energy expenditure requiring regulators to consume more food and posses a higher metabolism than conformers.
  • In humming bird to cool down regulators rely on sweating panting or opening their mouths.
  • To remains warm , some animals shiver increase metabolism.
  • It can survive winter temperature with abundant food. It is larger than conformers because they produce heat and eat more frequently.

conformers:

  • it must change their environment to survive temperature variation.
  • he older term cold blooded is less favored than ectotjerms which refers to animals that rely on the environment for heat.
  • It engage in behavior to regulate their temperature such as basking in the sun for warmth or retreating underground or into water to cool. In cold weather these slow their activity
  • It risk death during extreme temperature changes.
  • It has slower growth rate at lower temperature and reduce metabolic process rate.

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
