Discovery of penicillin in the year 1928 revolutionized it all for medical research.

Alexander Fleming discovered the bacterial killer or antibiotic in Streptococcus culture. This was used to trat several injured during world war II and saved thosands of life. This prompted pharmaceutical companies to invest in research for discovery of products with antibacterial properties that can save human life.
