You are the HR manager for a commercial airline. You have been assigned to develop a realistic job preview for flight attendants. Your objective is to give a balanced picture of the job so that applicants will better understand what they will be asked to do. Job duties, schedules, and other facets of the job should all be well understood early in the recruiting process to avoid poor P/E fit later on. A. How would you gather information about the job context and environment? Explain what sources you would use and why. B. How could you use technology to show the positive and negative aspects of the job?
Answer.A-
I would gather information by interviewing current airline attendants and asking questions about the job that they currently perform. Find out the extent of the requirements of the position, the hours the flight attendants would be required to work, the training involved and the certifications that would be needed. I would also take the time to watch the flight attendants during an actual flight to get a feeling for the job. Also I would ask the airline pilot how they depend on the attendants and what their expectations are. After the flight I would ask a few passengers what the flight attendants could do better if anything so I can give that input to potential employees.
Answer.B-
Technology has both its good and bad points when using it in any aspect. The positive is that it can speed up the process for getting new employees ready to take on their new position. You can use technology to show training videos to new employees to help them train for their new position. You can also use technology to perform exams to test how the training has worked. The negative is that if you use technology it lacks the on hands training and the new flight attendant may not be as prepared in real life situations as they should be.
