When dealing with Crohn's disease
1)is it autosomal dominance?
2) what is the Epidemiology?
3) What is the Incidence and Prevalence for this disease?
Crohn's Disease
1. Crohn's Disease is not autosomal dominant. Rather the inheritance pattern of this disease is autosomal recessive. It has been seen with the case studies that only 15% of the patients have relatives of the first degree like parents or siblings.
2.Epidemiology- The occurrence of Crohn's Disease is 3 to 15 in every 100000 cases. It is a rare category disease. In India, the occurrence is less than 1 million per year within a population of 1.4 billion. The onset of this disease can happen within 15 to 25 years of age, or the next peak is 50 to 80 years of age.
3. According to several studies, the prevalence of this disease is shown in the industrial parts of the world like North America and the western part of Europe. But this disease is now prevalent in the Indian Subcontinent and other Asian countries. some debatable facts are there too. Like, it is prevalent among women, found more in jews or more common in the urban population, though several studies found this data misleading and not able to substantiate their conclusion.
