Why are the Hawthorne Studies important to the study of Organization behavior? (Answer with much detail.)
Hawthorne studies is all about the workers of an organization. It was basically based on whether the workers were more responsible and were working more efficiently in any working environment. And they (Mayo and Reothlisberger) got surprising results which concluded that the workers were more responsible to social factors i.e., the workers were highly responsive to how their managers were treating them and their additional attention towards them. All these things by the managers helped them in motivating to complete their work. Organization behavior can be defined as the study in which how people behave within groups are known. And now to set the goals for organization behavior, Hawthorne studies are very important to be known. To set the goals of organization behavior all the leaders of Hawthorne study started thinking that they should use the scientific technique of observation to increase the quality of the workers and even their quantity. They thought of observing the workers as they considered them as interchangeable resources. They thought workers as unique. And now those days are gone and after the world war II techniques have changed. Today other studies have evolved in business structure and decision making.
