• Role of intercultural communication in relationships:-
• Communication is a part of our lives based upon which we connect with people and form relationships,whether they are personal or professional.Communication can happen from any part of the world between people belonging to different cultural backgrounds.Intercultural communication is verbal or nonverbal communication between people from different cultures.
• For example, diverse workplaces today have employees working from around the globe.Video conferencing is one of the most common methods used by organizations to communicate with a clients from another country and culture.Like an American company employee holding discussions with their Japanese clients.
• They might use transalators which allows for a positive intraction as the client would feel that the company is respecting his culture and not really forcing them to speak in another language which he might not be knowing.This is developing a work relationship through intercultural communication.
• Intercultural communication allows for positive and productive interaction with others for forming relationships.One is not joining this culture, one is becoming a member of another society, one is not even abandoning their own culture.
• Eventhough language proficiency make intercultural communication easier but its not a necessity.Having knowledge to understand other's culture will help in building positive relationsips.The ability to understand different gestures and nonverbal expressions like eye contact,hand shaking etc. of a particular culture is important to develop relationships.
