Q1: An object is attached to a pendulum whose string length is 4 meters. If the ideal pendulum (neglect the mass of the string and the shape of the object) is displaced by an angle of 20 degree with respect to the vertical, and released from rest, what is its speed at its lowest location?

Answer #1

vertical height of pendulum

cos x = (L - h) / L

h = L ( 1 - cos x)

h = 4 ( 1 - cos 20)

h = 0.241 m

using 3rd equation of motion

v^2 = 2gh

v^2 = 2* 9.8* 0.241

v = 2.174 m/s
