The most popular linux server distributions are slackware, arch linux, oracle linux, fedora, etc.

There are multiple different Linux distributions. Many have different features like some, like Fedora, refuse to include closed-source software, while others, like Mint, include closed-source stuff to make it easier on users. They include different default software like how Ubuntu includes Unity, Ubuntu derivatives include other desktop environments, Fedora includes GNOME Shell, and Mint includes Cinnamon or MATE.Lets discuss some of the linux server distributions:

Oracle Linux

Oracle Linux is one of the best Linux Server Distro proudly powered by Oracle. There are two Kernels available in Oracle. One is Red Hat Compatible Kernel (RHCK and other one are Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). Both systems work well with the different hardware such as Lenovo, HP, IBM, etc. Oracle Linux is the best for its Kernel Security. Let’s have a look at its features.

Fedora

Fedora is one of the best Linux server distro containing experimental technologies developed for the commercial Linux distribution. It is a fresh Linux server OS to the user who is new in the Linux World. It supports various desktop environment including Gnome, KDE, etc.

Lets discuss installation difference of Redhat and Ubuntu:

Let’s start the Redhat vs Ubuntu comparison with their system requirements. The desktop edition of Ubuntu requires 25GB hard disk space, 2GHz dual-core processor, and 2GB RAM.

In the meantime, the system requirements for Redhat varies from version to version. For version 5, Redhat requires 4GB hard disk space and 1GB RAM (recommended 2GB RAM). Version 6 requires at least 6GB hard disk space and 2GB RAM. Redhat has requirements of 2GB RAM and minimum 10GB hard disk space for its version 7. But for the better usage, 20GB hard disk space is recommended. The better your hardware configuration, the better their performance.

he installation process for both Redhat and Ubuntu is very easy. They use their specific installers. To install Redhat, you can choose the installation process from different methods. You can install Redhat with a bootable RHEL DVD, USB flash drive, or a CD-ROM either using a hard drive or via NFS server. But the official re-distribution of Redhat requires a renewable subscription.

On the other hand, you can easily install Ubuntu booting your computer using either a USB flash drive or a DVD containing the required Ubuntu version. And, it’s not going to charge you for any support.

The most common problems that occur during the linux installations are:

1. Terminology during install is sometimes overly filled with technical jargon and does not inspire confidence that everything is going correctly. This is especially the case for those using the SE (server edition).

2. The disk they have or the ISOs they've downloaded are corrupt. It is essential if you are downloading any Linux version from the internet, that you perform the vital checksum.

3. In most cases the key installation issue stems from bad burns or bad ISO downloads.

4. The computer does not have a network connection and therefore aborts the install process.

Segmentation fault:

Signal 11, or officially know as "segmentation fault", means that the program accessed a memory location that was not assigned. That's usually a bug in the program. So if you're writing your own program, that's the most likely cause.

Segmentation fault can occur under following circumstances:

a) A buggy program / command, which can be only fixed by applying patch.

b) It can also appear when you try to access an array beyond the end of an array under C programming.

c) Inside a chrooted jail this can occur when critical shared libs, config file or /dev/ entry missing.

d) Sometime hardware or faulty memory or driver can also create problem.

e) Maintain suggested environment for all computer equipment (overheating can also generate this problem).

Steps to debug Segmentation Fault errors:

  • Use gdb to track exact source of problem.
  • Make sure correct hardware installed and configured.
  • Make sure all dependencies installed inside jail.
  • Turn on core dumping for supported services such as Apache.
  • Use strace which is a useful diagnostic, instructional, and debugging tool.
  • Google and find out if there is a solution to problem.
  • Fix your C program for logical errors such as pointer, null pointer, arrays and so on.
