It seems somewhat contradictory to suggest that England surpassed China in economic and industrial development by engaging in a “race to the bottom.” How is this apparent contradiction resolved?
Race to the bottom not reflect the growth rate or economic standing instead the term is used to refer to the competitiveness of the country in global product market with regards to their cost on account of lower wages, safety of the labor and not following regulation and England is suggested to follow the same strategy by utilizing the cheap labor from its colonies and using them to flood the global market with cheap products, also there was no safety net provided to the workers who works in extreme conditions all of this resulted in England becoming the manufacturing powerhouse of the world during that period.
