I personally find stereotypes as exaggerated assumptions about groups of people. It is some age old notions which the community has been following since they heard form their fathers and forefathers. It is a kind of over-generalized belief for something or someone. The problem with these is that they judge people based on preassumed notions about things. A cultural characteristic is a pattern of behaviour which is very typical to any particular group. It defines the groups and the people associated to it. It helps us to better understand the group as a general term. These traits can help us learn things about people better and we may react accordingly. It can be destructive in instances when we assume them to be like the others in the community where as they are not.So we can say that it depends form person to person.
