Answer #1

Answer:Shifting the curve is general used term in various aspects.(Microbiology, ecology, hemoglobin% or disease and behavioural aspects). It is generally used in case of either addition or subtraction of desired component (experimental doses) which ultimately results in very big change in population size so that it shift the curve.

Explanation: In microbiology aspect

Bacterial growth curve is sigmoid (S shaped) is an example of curve shift .

.For the bacterial culture firstly microorganism prepare itself in stage called as Lag phase.

Now due to availability of all required nutrient  content maximum growth takes place(Log phase)

if the all nutrient is deplicted or consumed by microbe and also by release of toxic waste the curve shift to stationary phase then finally to decline phase.

But if we keep on adding nutrient content so that the log phase is maintained so no shifting will take place. so overall idea is that small increase in exposure will result in large increase in percent of population of people/ microbes. This curve generally shift from left to right in case of wrong doses.

If we talk in concern to bacterial activity so the small rise in temperature will result in distruction of large bacterial population only few will survive so if we plot a comparitive graph then in normal case when temperature is optimum so survival rate is 100% as temperature increases this rate is suddenly fall down so we get the two separate peaks. This shift in the peak due to different factors may be biotic or abiotic is responsible for shifting the curve.
