Part 2 - Food Webs:
Draw the following chart:
|
Sixth-Level Consumers |
|
|
Fifth-Level Consumers |
|
|
Fourth-Level Consumers |
|
|
Third-Level (Tertiary) Consumers |
|
|
Second-Level (Secondary) Consumers |
|
|
First-Level (Primary) Consumers |
|
|
Producers |
- Arrange the names of the organisms on the chart to show how a
food web on a coral reef would be organized. Place producers in the
area marked for producers, etc. If an organism could occupy more
than one level, put that name between levels or make a duplicate
copy of the name and place in both levels.
- Draw arrows showing the flow of energy from the organism being
consumed to the organism doing the consumption.
Sixth level consumers
Shark
↑
Fifth level consumers
Barracuda
↑
Fourth level consumers
↑
Third level consumers
Clown fish, octopus, parrotfish, stingray
↑
Second level consumers
Sea urchin, clown fish, crab, jellyfish, octopus, parrotfish, sea star, spiny lobster
↑
First level consumers
Zooplankton, clam, corals, sea turtle, shrimp, snails
↑
Producers
Phytoplankton, coralline algae
Upward arrow shows that energu flows from the organisms at lower trophic levels to the organims at higher trophic level. Also, there is a decrease in energy as it flows through different trophic levels.
To simplify it, first arrange organims of lower trophic levels.
Please rate.
