All of us need food and water to live and survive. Describe how communities and individuals ensure the quality of both food and water. What steps can be taken to make sure both the food and water and safe to consume?

Food Quality

Excess use of Chemical in farming - Food can be contaminated at the very first level of its production i.e. farm level. Misuse or excessive use of chemicals, including pesticide can have negative effect on quality of crops being produced. These crops can also be contaminated by use of water coming from source which contaminates water with chemicals or other harmful substances.

One method to avoid it could be to encourage ‘Organic Farming’. Though these foods are costly but they are healthy and very suitable for consumption.

Excessive use of Chemical in agriculture-Food may be polluted at the very first stage of production, i.e. the stage of the crop. Misuse or improper use of chemicals, including pesticides, can adversely affect crop quality. Such crops can also be polluted by using spring water that contaminates water with chemicals or other harmful substances.

One way of preventing this would be to encourage 'Food Farming.' While these crops are costly, they are nutritious and very good for use.

Government Guidelines-There are also rules and legislation in effect that must be followed at all levels of food production. Also certain companies 'goods are eligible to pass the inspection test. Be sure to purchase goods approved by government. All these products have a government logo that reflects the approved product certification. Use-by Date 'is also one essential piece of information that each commodity has. Consumers must be vigilant to ensure that the commodity they are buying has not expired.

Best methods in cooking-. When it comes to food cooking water is an essential ingredient. Almost everywhere it has its presence, right from washing the vegetables and utensils to making use of it as part of food. Ensure sure water is free of any harmful bacteria that is being used.

Cooking Oil-Cooking process will create carcinogenic radicals in the food again and again. Please recycle it at suitable time.

Water Quality

Sewage treatments: Water from houses as waste should be treated properly before it is released to the atmosphere. Don't allow dirty water to interact directly with the atmosphere. A remedy to dirty water would be to provide proper sewage treatments and pit toilet.

Water Contamination from Industrial Waste: All attempts should be made by individuals and governments to avoid the contamination from major water bodies such as rivers, lakes etc. Cleaning up river water by natural cycle is difficult. Complete preventing the introduction of industrial wastage. It should be processed and properly detoxified before discharging into any water body

Treatment plants: Big cities have water treatment plants. These plants filter out all harmful including undissolved materials. Chemical treatment is also done to remove the chemicals. Then this water is released for farming.

Public Awareness: Common masses should be aware of importance of clean and hygiene water. They should also be informed about water pollution and how it can be curbed. It should be included as a part of basic education.
