Describe three (3) national infrastructures that require interoperability between all hospitals in the United States. Next, suggest two (2) ways that the use of an integrated delivery system improves the quality of patient services. please provide a source
When defining the word interoperability it describes the extent to which systems and devices can exchange data, and interpret that shared data. When trying to connect interoperability and national infrastructure we have to ask ourselves what national building, road, etc. requires a computer system all over hospitals in the United States.
1. EMR- Electronic Medical Records. In my opinion EMR's are the first defense between all hospitals. There has to be a computer system that asst in connecting healthcare and patient medical history without the patient having to recite their medical history at every doctor's visit because something is bound to change, get omitted, or confused.
2. Ambulances. In my opinion ambulances need need to have a medical device in the inside that will hook up to the patients finger or limb and be able to identify the patient and provide general information and any health problems that have been provided in the past from previous medical appointments.
3. All Radiology Devices like MRI's, X-Rays. and CT scan. Having the device generate the patient medical history would relieve a lot of the frustration techs have with trying to figure out the pain location and any other diagnosis or rule out.
Two ways that the use of an integrated delivery system improves the quality of patient services is accuracy. Most of the time people have multiple doctors or providers that they see on a yearly or annual bases. From year to year I know that memory changes. For example, every year I know when I go for my annual check up my height changes from 5'2 to 5'3 just depending on how I am feeling and what kind of shoes I have on. Another suggestion is efficiency and effectiveness. Most of the time providers schedules are double booked due to un-announced appointments by patients that need to be seen on the same day that they call. With an integrated delivery system providers will be able to managed their appointments in a timely manner because all of the necessary information would be available to them with a simple click.
