Marriott International was founded by J. Willard and Alice Marriott in 1927. The core values that Marriott embrace are putting people first, pursue excellence, embrace changes, act with integrity and lastly, serve our world. ("Marriott International, Inc.") These values have been established in their company and helped them in the growth of their company.

There are a total of 390 out of 7,674 English jobs (about 5%) reviews of employees regarding the work-life balance on Glassdoor, where most of these reviews are bad (Employee, et al., 2019). The reasons are mainly due to a long time at work. According to Comparably, a company that gives real company ratings from employees, Marriott has a rating of 55% being satisfied with the work-life balance, while there are 52% of the employees who feel burnt out by their work at Marriott. When the employees are asked about the number of hours that they work, 29% said 10 hours, 5% said 12 hours and 5% said more than 12 hours. For their breaks, 12% said they are given more than an hour of break, 11% said 1 hour, 14% said 45 minutes, 46% said 30 mins, and 17% said they ate at their desk. ("Marriott Work Life Balance")

The problems of work life balance in Marriott International are that employees are over worked and have lesser time to spare for themselves and their families. They work for long hours and get few hours off from their work. The techniques that can be used by Marriott International for providing better work life balance are that employees are encouraged to be efficient by making efforts at work place with productivity and giving time to their family. They can be encouraged to involve themselves with community work so that they have satisfaction with their contribution and role. The employees if offered compensation that is commensurate with their work, it can help them achieve their work life balance by spending optimum time at work and with their families.
