Choose the time complexity of the following algorithm.

int function1(int Z[ ], int n, int b)
{
     for (int i = 0; i < n; i++)
     {
         if ( Z[i] == b )
              return i;
      }
    return -1;
}

a. O(1)

b. O(n)

c. O(mn)

d. O(n*n)

Answer #1

Worst case :- In which for loop will run till n.

  • Case 1:- Last element of the array (Z) is equal to the b.
  • Case 2:- No element in the array is equal to b.

so, considering one of the above case, the time complexity of the algorithm is O(n) (option b)
