What is Duckworth's main point? What ideas do you find most compelling? Why? (150 word response)
Ans
Duckworth's main point was focused on describing grit as a predictor of success. He described grit as a " perseverance and passion of long term goals " since it helps in maintaining the individual's determination and motivation over a long periods despite of occurance of failures. He concluded that grit is a better predictor of success than intellectual talent .
The ideas of Duckworth's which I found more compelling are:
1. Positive psychology.
Duckworth found that grit is associated with positive psychology as the difference in the the components of grit i.e. perseverance of effort and consistency of interest over time evolves from the differences in what makes people happy.
2. Personality measures.
Duckworth stated that grit has a genetic correlation with personality dimensions like conscientiousness which helps in achievement of long term goals.
3. Perseverance.
Duckworth found that grit is a measure of individuals ability to persist in obtaining a specific goal over a extended period of time.
The above stated ideas of Duckworth I found more compelling because of following reasons they are:
1. A individual with positive psychology is more success in achieving of its long term goals as compared to negative psychology individual since the individual works towards the goal with more zeal when they are happy and satisfied with the same.
2. A individual with possessing the personality trait of conscientiousness is achiever of their long term goals since this trait helps them to take the things more seriously and perform their tasks in a well orgainsed manner.
