Answer #1

Electric motor is used to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy and the generator produces electrical energy from mechanical energy.

The basic principle of Motor: a current carrying loop in a magnetic field experiences a torque

The basic principle of Generator: An emf is induced in a closed loop when magnetic flux through the coil changes

In principle, if the electric motor is turned by means of some external action, the motor act as a generator of electricity. DC motor with permanent magnets can act as a generator whether it is brushed or not; you will need to add a rectifier to get a DC output.
