  1. You go to Hawaii for spring break where, because of the good climate, Cardinals (which were introduced there) breed continuously throughout the year.  In addition, these Cardinals exhibit density-dependent growth (their population grows according to the logistic equation), with their carrying capacity of 350 individuals on the Big Island determined by the size of the island.  If r0 = 0.1 individuals / (individual*year), by how many individuals would the population change in the first year after introduction if the original population size was 480 Cardinals? (3 pts)
  1. Using the information in problem 4, what is the maximum positive change in the number of individuals per year (that is, the maximum value of dN/dt)?  (3 pts)

  1. Again using problem 4, at what population size would per capita growth rate be the highest? (2 pts)

I'm really stuck on #3, please help!

Answer #1

Answer-

1) After 1 year population size will be 462; So, the changes in population size will be 18 (negative growth).

2) When population size is half of carrying capacity, the population will show maximum positive growth. Change in population growth will be 8.75

3) Population size will be 175.

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
