During a recent earthquake, a 1.0 miles long underground telephone lines are crushed at some point. The telephone line uses two parallel copper wires of the same diameter and same length, which are normally not connected. At the place where the line is crushed, the two wires make contact. You disconnect the line form the telephone system at both ends of the line. You measure the resistance in the wire by connecting an ohmmeter to the two wires. From one end of the line you measure 6 Ohms of resistance and from the other end you measure a resistance of 2 Ohms. Where is the line crushed? (hint: you'll need to set up a ratio)
