Nucleotide base pair is defined as two nucleobases or nitrogenous bases that are bonded to each other with hydrogen bonds that act as the building block of the DNA double helix. There are two types of nitrogenous base Purine and Pyrimidine. Purine constitutes Adenine and guanine, Pyrimidine constitutes Cytosine and Thymine or Uracil in case of RNA. Complementary base pairing occurs when Adenine bonds with Thymine with 2 hydrogen bonds and Guanine bonds with Cytosine with 3 hydrogen bonds. In case of RNA Adenine bonds with Uracil with 2 hydrogen bonds. Therefore, corresponding base-pair partner for Adenine is Thymine/Uracil and corresponding base-pair partner for Guanine is Cytosine.
