Strategic planning means planning based on a company’s strategy or direction for a significant period. IT innovation means doing something never done before. Discuss what role IT innovation should play in a company’s strategic plan, and why? Should a company plan to do something it has never done before? If so, how can this be accomplished? In what ways can a plan support the eventual implementation of something that doesn’t yet exist?
The role of IT innovation in a company's strategic plan is to help the company to aim higher and offers the possibility of participation in decision making and ability for individual to prove themselves in an organisation by making the use of technology in new ways to create more efficient organisation and improve alignment between technology initiative and business goals. It also helps to analyze the gap between the where the IT department currently is in achieving its goals and what it want to achieve.
This is because IT innovation strategic plan is a written document which tells the multiple factors that affects organization's investment and is use of technology. It also covers technology management including cost management ,human capital management ,hardware and software management and risk management.
Yes , company should plan to do something that has never done before in order to survive in this competitive era. Organisation in order to survive in a turbulent environment must innovate its product ,processes and services . The organisation that do not innovate , will rapidly disappearing from the market.
This can be accomplished by meeting the five requirement definition and management process :
1) Elicitation
2) Analysis
3) Specification
4) Validation
5) Management
With the use of these appropriate tools , organisations are expected to improve their ability to handle their ongoing changes , maximizing business impact , gain greater ability to manage the ever increasing request from business teams .

1) It helping IT departments align day to day operation
2) Technology advancement and innovation require organisation to become agile that help them more competitive and better serve their market .
