In a plant that is bending toward a light source, why does the redistribution of auxin result in the plant bending toward the light?

Since auxin stimulates cell growth, cells grow more rapidly on the 'dark' side of the plant, causing it to bend toward the light.

Auxin is produced at lower levels on the light side of the plant, which stimulates cells to absorb lower levels of light.

Since auxin stimulates cell growth, cells grow more rapidly on the 'light' side of the plant, causing it to bend toward the light.

Auxin is produced at higher levels on the light side of the plant, which stimulates cells to absorb greater levels of light.

Answer #1

Auxin is a hormone found in plants which stimulates cell growth causing stem elongation or bending. Also, auxin is light sensitive, it is more active in absence of light. So, the reason why plants bend towards light is, due to presence of light, auxins in the plant body come to the dark side of the stem and do their work for stem elongation. As a result, the plant has more cell growth on the dark side rather than the light side.

So, appropriate answer is the first one.

Carbohydrates are stored within roots and stems as starch that serves not only as a nutrient reserve but it also helps sensing the gravity: starch-filled statoliths settle to the bottom of cells, triggering a redistribution of auxin to the lower side of the root, where it slows elongation, causing the root to bend downward. When stems respond to gravity, auxin accumulates on the lower surface (in response to the movement of heavy starch-filled organelles), but the stem bends up. How...

ASAP please write a hypothesis about which seedlings "light" or "no light" will grow taller one week after germination. and please draw the graph details needed thank you ntroduction: Photosynthetic plants require light to make sugars in order to produce the energy to grow. Yet, when we think about plants needing light to grow, we do not intuitively understand how light affects the rate at which plants grow taller. Plants do exhibit positive phototropism, which means they grow towards light....
