The Federation Aviation Administration originates way back even before federal policies and regulations for governing air were established (Vasov & Mirosavljević, 2010). The first aviation practices in the early 1900s introduced trend aviation innovations which were successfully used in military operations. In 1926, an Air Commercial Act was passed to improve the formerly proposed airline regulation measures. The act reinforced air traffic regulations and ensured that pilots were legally licensed. The first traffic control centers were established in 1934. The airline routes and fares began to be regulated in 1938 under the administration of President Franklin when his government created the Civil Aeronautics Act. In 1958, the Federal Aviation Agency was established. The agency gave the final verdict on matters of airline safety and regulations. The Department of Transport was constituted in 1967, and it regulated all forms of transport. Under the administration of President Lyndon Johnson, the Federal Aviation Agency was renamed to the current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). FAA has three main functions; regulating the US airspace, fostering technology and innovation in aviation and issuing, revoking and suspending licenses and certifications.

The recent Boeing crashes pose significant concerns on the administration of the aviation activities, putting the FAA on the limelight. The incident happened when Boeing 737 Max crashed in Ethiopia early this year, a crush that was the second deadliest of the new plane. The plane crashed 7 minutes after taking off from Ethiopia. A total of 157 people died as a result of the crash. The incident has put the FAA under scrutiny, especially on matters regulation. There are concerns that the FAA authorized the company to regulate itself. The act of delegating authority to plane makers has once again been revisited, though it is an old practice in the industry. Another significant influence of the event on the industry is the certification process. Also, the crash has caused an improvement in the safety regulations in the airline industry.

2) What is the role of the TSA? Describe the process of screening alien flight students.

TSA was founded in 2001 as a response unit to terrorism. The role of the unit is to handle traveler screening for all passengers. The TSA functions under the regulation of the Aviation and Transportation Security Act. The authority seeks to improve security among airline travelers by communicating policies and guidelines to travelers. It also recruits and hires to fill the TSA job vacancies (Yaakob & Binitha, 2015).

The screening process begins by TSA vetting flight students applications submitted to them. The vetting is done through AFSP. Before alien students receive flight training, they must have a TSA security threat assessment. The process helps determine which student may pose a security threat to the United States. TSA uses the information submitted by the applicant to conduct a criminal history background check. The process also entails a review of the Terrorist Screening Database. After the screening process, the TSA determines I a student can pose a security threat or is cleared to fly.

3) What is the scope and responsibilities of the NTSB? Find a recent NTSB accident investigation and summarize the case.

The NTSB is a national agency that is mandated to investigate all major aviation accidents (Gudmundsson, 2013). The agency provides safety recommendations in case of a crash, and the purposes of giving the details of the accident.

Currently, the agency is investigating the Ethiopia airline crash that occurred early this year. It is working along with the US air safety officials to establish the cause of a crash that caused the death of 157 people. Boeing is working together with NTSB in helping in the AIB investigation. Since the final report has not been established, the agency and other investigating authorities prevent the airline company from disclosing any information relating to the crash.

4) Define the various components of general aviation.

Corporate aviation – this component of general aviation entails airline organization own-use flight operations.

Personal/private travel – this category entails personal transport plans or any form of travel for personal reasons.

Air sports – this category includes air races, air rallies, aerobatics, and all airline sports activities.

Fractional ownership operations – this component is concerned with aircraft operations of a specialized airline organization.

Air tourism – this component deals with self-flown outgoing or incoming tourism.

Recreational flying – the component consists of all leisure flying activities.

5) Research an FBO and describe its operation.

The Million Air Houston specializes in luxury and prides at offering top-level hospitality services in Texan. The company has a well-stocked and comfortable bar, hotels, and restaurants. It also has a luxurious cinema room where travelers can kick back and relax. The facility is located at the Hobby Field in Houston. It is situated next to high-class bars and clubs of the city.

6) What is the role of the NBAA? Find a recent issue that the NBAA is battling.

NBAA is a group that speaks for corporate and private jet owners (Torenbeek, 2013). NBAA helps its members to network with other peers in the industry and help them access detailed guidelines of the industry’s best practices. NBAA also offers essential information for regulatory compliances. Provides scholarships for members and offers premium publications.

In 2017, the Airline Passenger Rights Organization and accused the NBAA of opposing the creation of independent organizations to run the US air traffic (Wensveen, 2018). The group and other supporting unions believe that flying in the US can become safer and efficient through ATC modernization. The groups established claims that characterized NBAA as a group that opposes modernization. In its defense, NBAA officials claimed that the opposing groups confused modernization with ATC privatization. NBAA CEO insisted that people must distinguish privatization from modernization. He further argued that in the past years, NBAA has been at the forefront of prioritizing modernization.
