I currently work in a service industry where we create software for logistics systems across the globe. Obviously our clients are the shipping companies, courier services, etc. Naturally given this scenario, I think that we have following opportunity for thought leadership to be instituted in our organization
The next big technology: Technology influences every aspect of business. This means it impacts our industry (logistics) as well. Given that this industry is comparatively competitive and has high fixed cost and high investment, clients are always looking for ways to make sure that they are ahead of the curve. This is where technology can help. We should work on though leadership approach where we dictate and initiate new trends in the industry that can be followed by others.
Green initiatives: Logistics industry is one of the biggest culprit when it comes go greenhouse effect and carbon emission. As we have seen, every industry is undergoing upheaval because of their social responsibility towards the environment. Now, there is an understanding that in order to move goods, we have to burn fuel. However we need to find a way that we can reduce the impact. This may require strong thought leadership.

In order to support the above objectives I can contribute in the planning and analysis process. Currently I work as a business analyst and am responsible for identifying market opportunities. However, I could also collect data from various sources, look at examples, and create a plan that can be presented to the executive team to build the departments that drive the initiatives.
