Variety, Moderation, and Balance: those are the key elements of a healthy diet. So, imagine when you are the parent of an 18-year-old who has just come home from fall semester of their freshman year. They left in good shape, but now they look like “death”, nothing but skin and bones. You ask about their diet and what you get is: “I ate some, but I tried out for the gymnastics team and the coaches said I just needed to ‘trim down’ a bit.”

Below, please provide a summary of your questions you would want your child to answer, so you could better understand what “trim down a bit” actually meant. What kind of guidance are you going to give your child before they go back for spring semester? You are free to use internet sources but be careful which you choose, and please cite your source(s) on your answer sheet.

Ans- (i) The questions that will be asked from the child will be about his/her daily routine, his /her diet, whether he/she was intaking any protein supplement. If yes then how much was being taken in a day. How much hours was he /she used to spend in gym to trim his/her weight . And about initial and final weight; numbers of hours of sleep taken.

(ii) To 'trim down a bit' means to reduce a little weight so as to become thinner.

(iii) The advice that will be given to the child will be as follows:

• Never take any protein supplements, instead involve dry fruits, fruits, and carbohydrates from the food grains.
• Drink a lot of water and take 8 hrs of sleep.
• Build a routine of going for walk daily.
• Never skip meals.
• Avoid junk and involve cooked food.
• In order to get trimmed down do not exhaust yourself .
• Keep a regular check on weight and inform routinely at home.
