If you cut off the shoulder belt in your car, preferring to have freedom to move your upper body, and you are severely injured in an accident because of your modification to the car, can you recover from the car's manufacturer?

No, you can not recover from the manufacturer if with investigation he came to know that the accident occurred due to some modifications in the original version of the car. Manufacturer covers certain types of liabilities only but with conditions. If the person can prove that the accident occurred due to inbuilt probelm in the manufacturing of the car, then he may be able to claim the required amount from the manufacturer.
