Introduction:- Reliability design is a sub-discipline of process engineering that stresses reliability when managing the lifecycle of a material. Reliability, describes the capacity of a system or component to function under given conditions for a specified period of time. Reliability is closely related to reliability, which is usually defined as the ability to function at a given time or time interval of a component or process. The abstract concept of the Reliability feature is the likelihood of performance. In reliability systems, quality, testability, repair and improvement are often described as part of "reliability technology." Reliability plays a key role in system cost-effectiveness, for example, when cars fail less frequently, they have a higher resale value. Reliability technology struggles with predicting, avoiding and handling the complexity and risk of failure at high levels of "lifetime" technologies.

Historical developments in the reliability field:- The emphasis on quantification and choice of targets suggests that there is a ceiling to acceptable performance, but there is no inherent limit and the development of higher quality does not have to be more costly. They claim, however, that estimating performance from historical data may be very inaccurate, with only reasonable correlations between similar models, goods, manufacturing processes, and servicing for equivalent operating loads and conditions of use. Also minor changes in any of these could have a significant impact on performance. Therefore, as historical data have been gathered, the most inaccurate and significant things (i.e. the most relevant candidates for a quality investigation) are most likely to be updated and re-engineered, rendering the traditional statistical methods and processes used in, for instance, the health or insurance industries less efficient.
