The Complement system is a part of immune system that enhances the ability of antibodies and phagocytic cell to clear microbes and damaged cells from an organism and it is made up of approximately 30 serum and cell surface proteins/ glycoproteins an important effector arm of both the innate and antibody mediated acquired immune response.

The Complement system perform play an important role in lysis of cell, opsonization,viral neutralization,inflammatory response and solubilization and clearance of immune complexes which remove the immune complexes from the circulation and deposit them in the spleen and liver,

Complement component are present in the serum in functionally inactive forms as proenzyme or zymogens.and it is synthesized mainly by liver hepatocytes, monocytes, tissue macrophages and epithelial cells of the gastrointestinal tract also produce significant amount of Complement component,
