Question Set 3. This question set uses the metropolitan model for facility location decisions. Each demand source has a weight indicating the volume of sales it is expected to generate. Using the demand data and five potential locations on the following page:

1. Find the sum of weighted metropolitan model distances for each of the five locations. Be sure the calculations are shown for each location’s sum of distances. (8pts)

2. As evidenced by having the smallest weighted sum of distances, which location is best? (2pts)

Answer #1

location planing using load distance method

  • Distance between any two points (here location and demand source) =
  • Weighted distance= weight for demand source * distance between location and demand source
  • SUM=   summation (weight * distance)

choosing a location -

we choose the location with least (sum of weighted distance). Here we choose location E

consider a study that compares the Atkins diet to a conventional diet. A study at the University of Pennsylvania selected a sample of 63 subjects from the local population of obese adults. Researchers randomly assigned 33 to the Atkins diet and 30 subjects to a conventional diet. Test whether there is a significant difference in the mean weight loss (measured in pounds) across the two different diet programs. Use minitab to solve the following: A typical cement facility uses a synthetic polymer to filter out dust particles that might be airborne from coking and cement processes. In order to achieve acceptable ambient air conditions, it is necessary to direct the exhaust from the various cement processes to a baghouse (a large vacuum cleaner element). Because the filters in the baghouse undergo harsh conditions, they do not last long. The Baghouse data gives the lifetime (in days) of Polymer...

One measure of variation that we can look at is the Range when we have continuous variables. We will be using this measure to create a histogram. A histogram is used to show the frequencies of certain events or categories of data values in a set of data from one time period. Data are plotted in increasing or deceasing order based on the frequency count for each data categories. Assignment I Below is a data file containing the average number...
