The mind is about mental processes, thought and consciousness. The body is about the physical aspects of the brain-neurons and how the brain is structured. The mind-body problem is about how these two interact.Cognitive science approaches the study of mind and intelligence from an interdisciplinary perspective, working at the intersection of philosophy, psychology, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, linguistics, and anthropology. Paul Thagard's accessible, concise, and integrated text presupposes no special preparation in any of these fields. Thagard systematically describes and evaluates the main computational theories of mental representation that have been advocated by cognitive scientists, including logic, rules, concepts, analogies, images, and connections. He considers the major challenges to the computational-representational view of mind and discusses emotions, consciousness, physical and social environments, dynamical systems, and mathematical knowledge. Teaching cognitive science is difficult, Thagard observes, because students come to this multidisciplinary subject with widely different competencies, backgrounds, and interests. Mind solves this dilemma by making logic comprehensible to psychology students, computer algorithms comprehensible to English students, and philosophical controversies comprehensible to computer science students.
How would you represent the concept of mind? Use examples mentioned in MIND by Paul Thagard...

Using the concept of of "Matched Pairs t Procedures" , describe how you would construct a comparison between two Automotive Repair facilities to see if there was a better alternative, in general. This means you need to determine sample size, how the the design would be implemented, and what the hypotheses are. This is similar to Round Robin testing in a laboratory or a "pretest/post test" study at the university. This discussion should be more than a single paragraph and...

2. Explain the concept of an incremental economic analysis. 3. What economic criterion would you use to choose the best piece of equipment among three alternatives, each with a different operating cost, capital cost, and equipment life? 4. Do you agree with the statement "Monte-Carlo simulation enables the design engi- neer to eliminate risk in economic analysis"? Please explain your answer. 5. In evaluating a large project, what are the advantages and disadvantages of proba- bilistic analysis?

Keeping in mind the assays done in Lab 1/2, (a) how could you design a colorimetric method to measure alpha-amylase activity? (b) What would you use as a control? (c) At what wavelength should the spectrophotometer be set? (d) Sketch a graph like Plot 1 (from this lab) to represent the amylase activity you would observe using your method. You want to know whether alpha-amylase is more active in the stomach (pH 2) or the intestines (pH 7). (a) How...
