Why is it important to avoid these three errors?

  1. No baseline for revaluation – It is very unfair to evaluate an employee without a specific baseline or benchmark. Care should be taken that the performance of an employee in one job role should not be compared with a different role.
  2. Bias through Halo effect – There are chances that the assessments could be skewed because an employee is perceived to have an appealing character. Whatever such an employee does will not be considered as mistake in some cases, thus leading to erroneous appraisals.
  3. Failing to listen – While the appraisal is being done, the manager must take responsibility of the work performance of an employee. He or she needs to clearly listen to the concerns and feedback of the employee under the work environment.

These three errors are important to avoid because if these errors are present in the performance appraisal then the whole process will be ineffective and the main objective of doing performance appraisal will be lost.

No baseline or no benchmark is the error where employee has not a standard to cross to show their results. if there is no baseline or benchmarks then how the supervisor or manager will evaluate the performance of employee and do comparison if there is no baseline.

Bias through halo effect-upervisors have favorites whom they evaluate with especially high ratings for each annual appraisal. This is called the halo effect, suggesting the employee can do no wrong. When supervisors give unequal weight to employee job tasks, it can produce an inaccurate performance appraisal. Errors can occur when supervisors look only at employee performance for the most recent period instead of the full evaluation period.

failing to listen- feedback is very important in every process because it gives full picture of the process if employee have something to say about his performance or any other activity so supervisor should listen to their sides. Failing to do so, cause unhealthy relation between supervisor and employee and it brought down the morale of employees.

so, it is very neccessary to remove these three errors and avoid them.
