Hydroelectricity is all about chemistry as water whose chemical formula is H_{​​​​​​2}​​​​​O moves down the hill the potential energy exists initially due to the height and which in turn gets converted to kinetic energy while it's movement down the hill. The Kinetic energy gained by water is dependant on Size, volume and distance of the water body and thus in this way energy can be converted from one form to another.

The distance between from where it moves to where it goes is also an important factor that highly influence the energy gained by water.
