How do the Mo-Mo distances in Mo2(O2CCH3)4, K4Mo2Cl8, and Mo2Cl4[P(C4H9)3]4 compare to those in metallic molybdenum and with those in compounds that have single Mo-Mo bonds?
In case of Mo2(O2CCH3)4 , K4Mo2Cl8 and Mo2Cl4[P(C4H9)3]4, all of them are called compounds of molybdenum having quadruple Mo-Mo bond. In case of Mo2(O2CCH3)4 and K4Mo2Cl8 , both the compounds are just differed by the ligands, but their quadruply bonded Mo24+ unit remains intact. The bond length of Mo-Mo in the above compounds are 2.09Å, 2.14Å and 2.13Å for Mo2(O2CCH3)4 , K4Mo2Cl8 and Mo2Cl4[P(C4H9)3]4 respectively.
In case of compounds having Mo-Mo single bond in them, the bond length varies from 3.27 Å to 2.090 Å.

Synthesis and Characterization of Mo2(O2CCH3)4 and K4Mo2Cl8: Compounds that Contain Metal-Metal Quadruple Bonds 1. Include complete balanced reactions of both preparations, from starting materials to products. 2. Trimethylamine-N-oxide is used as an initiator for the Mo2(O2CCH3)4 preparation. Suggest a reaction by which Trimethyl-amine-N-oxide activates molybdenum hexacarbonyl. 3. Mo2(O2CCH3)4 has a bond order of four and is diamagnetic. If this compound was oxidized or reduced by one electron, what would be the resulting bond orders?
